What is it?

Scars are a natural part of the body's healing process. They form when the dermis (deep, thick layer of skin) is damaged. The body forms new collagen fibers to mend the damage, resulting in a scar. The new scar tissue will have a different texture and quality then the surrounding tissue.

Scars may develop from: infections, surgeries, injuries, acne and diseases.

There are several types of scars: Hypertrohic (thick, pink and raise), keloid (similar to hypertrophic but builds over time), atrophic (acne scars), contracture and straie (stretch marks).

At Revita Skin Clinic, we treat all types of scars. We use Fractional Laser Resurfacing to treat most scars. Successful scar removal treatment requires deep energy penetration through the epidermis, and into the reticular dermis to activists a healing response. The laser hand piece precisely creates micro columns of coagulated tissue that extends through the epidermis into the dermis, triggering a healing response that removes the coagulated tissue. This then replaces it with healing tissue dramatically improving the appearance of the scar.

Fractional Resurfacing to treat scars is safe for all skin types. During the procedure, the client will experience a slight prickling sensation. The treatment is bearable with slight discomfort.

You can expect the area treated to be red and slightly swollen for 24-48 hours post-treatment, and treatments are typically done a month apart.
